Faculty members appointed to new DFG Senate Commission Faculty members appointed to new DFG Senate Commission

The Permanent Senate Commission “Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems” will begin its work on January 1, 2024

The transformation of global agricultural and food systems due to climate change, loss of biodiversity, changes in land use and demographic changes poses new challenges for society and politics. The Permanent DFG Senate Commission “Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems” has the task of researching this change and preparing scientifically sound information.

The entire value chain is considered, from natural conditions and cultivation and production systems for plants and animals to processing and the eating habits of consumers. The Senate Commission has set itself the following key topics for its first term of office:

  • Ways to achieve food security within planetary boundaries
  • Ways to diversify the cultivation of crops
  • Ways to socially transform the production and consumption of meat and animal products

 

Prof. Dr. Wulf Amelung, Prof. Dr. Frank Ewert and Prof. Dr. Matin Qaim from the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Bonn have been appointed as scientific members of the Senate Commission, whose constituent meeting will take place at the end of April.
